Donations

Consider a tax-deductible donation to the Commerce Public Library.

We hope you will consider a tax-deductible donation to the Commerce Public Library.  Below are key reasons why the CPL is a worthwhile recipient of your support.

  • Life-long Learning: The Commerce Public Library became a reality in 1954 and has provided opportunities for life-long learning to families and businesses in Commerce and the surrounding area for 56 years.  Weekly Story Time and Summer Reading Club encourage our youngest citizens to read, enrich their minds, and maintain learning year-round.   Classes for adults who want to earn their high school equivalency diploma (GED), learn to read (Adult Basic Education), or learn English as a Second Language (ESL) help residents get better jobs and perhaps fulfill the dream of attending college.
  • Community Services: The Library has kept pace with technology and provides computer stations and free internet access as well as books, books on CD, and DVDs.  TexShare databases offer full-text sources of general information and periodical articles for homework and education, history and genealogy, health and medicine, business resources, and literature.  The Library maintains a remarkable local history archive, is a Passport Acceptance Agency, and provides notary, faxing and copying services.   The library website (www.commercepubliclibrary.org) provides descriptions of the library’s services.
  • Financial Need: The library is accredited by the Texas State Library and is operated and managed by the Friends of the Commerce Public Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The City of Commerce, Hunt County, United Way, other organizations, businesses and individuals help to fund operational expenses.  However, their generous support is not enough to keep the doors open and the bills paid.   During 2010, the library was forced to cut service hours and work hours for some employees.  The library depends on donations from citizens and businesses like you who believe the library is vital for an acceptable standard of living in our community.

Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Friends of the Commerce Public Library.  Your donation will assure that the library can continue to provide important services.

Consider these facts when making your donation:

$ 46 (provides library services for one hour)

$ 184 (provides library services for ½ day)

$ 368 (provides library services for one day)

$ 2,019 (provides library services for one week)

Donations of any amount will be appreciated!
